Catches of the week
Bluewater Lake: Dec. 1, Wayne Garcia of Albuquerque caught and released a 39-inch tiger musky. Dec. 1, Tim Urtiaga of Eagle Nest caught and released a 35-inch tiger musky. He was using a hand tied custom sucker fly.
Animas River: Water flow near Aztec on Monday morning was 182 cfs. We had no reports from anglers this week.
Jackson Lake: Trout fishing was fair to good using Power Bait, salmon eggs and Kastmasters. We had no reports on other species.
Lake Farmington: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Navajo Lake: Fishing for northern pike was slow but there were a few caught by anglers using jerk baits and crank baits. Fishing for smallmouth bass was slow to fair using jigs, tubes and worms. A few rainbow trout were caught by anglers using Power Bait. We had no reports on other species.
San Juan River: Water flow below Navajo Dam on Monday was 357 cfs. Trout fishing through the Quality Waters was good using foam wing emergers, fluff baetis, zebra midges, San Juan worms, egg patterns and small bead-head pheasant tails. There were some strong midge hatches in the early afternoon hours. Fishing through the bait waters was fair to good using salmon eggs, copper John Barrs and San Juan worms.
Abiquiu Lake: Fishing was slow for all species. Fishing pressure was extremely light.
Albuquerque Area Drains: Fishing on the Belen Drain was fair to good drifting salmon eggs and worms under a bobber for trout. We had no reports on other species. Fishing on the Albuquerque Drain was good using salmon eggs for trout. We had no reports from the other drains.
Bluewater Lake: Fishing was slow to fair using hot dogs, large streamers and in-line spinners for tiger musky. We had no reports on other species. As of Monday morning there was a layer of skim ice on the lake. For updated ice conditions contact the State Park office at (505) 876-2391. Anglers should be aware that it is illegal to use bait fish, alive or dead, at this lake.
Brazos River: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Canjilon Lakes: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Chama River: Monday morning water flows below El Vado and Abiquiu were 219 cfs and 175 cfs respectively. Trout fishing below El Vado was fair to good using salmon eggs, night crawlers, wooly buggers and copper John Barrs. Fishing below Abiquiu was fair using worms, wooly buggers, copper John Barrs and salmon eggs.
Cochiti Lake: Fishing was slow for all species. Fishing pressure was light.
El Vado Lake: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Fenton Lake: A layer of ice has formed on the lake and it is closed to ice fishing. Put this one back on your list for great fishing early next spring.
Heron Lake: Kokanee snagging was very good this past weekend. Pressure was light but the anglers who were here had a great time. The best areas were near the dam and in the Ridge Rock area. We had no reports on other species.
Jemez Waters: Stream flow on the Jemez as of Monday was 25 cfs. Fishing on the Jemez River was fair using copper John Barrs and salmon eggs. Fishing on the Cebolla was slow to fair using night crawlers and salmon eggs. We had no reports from the other streams in the area.
Laguna Del Campo: Closed for the season.
San Gregorio: We had no reports from anglers.
Santa Cruz Lake: This water has closed to boating and will remain closed until mid-July of 2015. The only fishing access will be from the overlook, which will remain open. The Bureau of Land Management will be renovating the north lake campground, boat launch, picnic area and main access road. We had no reports from anglers this week.
Seven Springs Brood Pond: We had no reports from anglers this week.
Tingley Beach: Fishing at the Youth and Central ponds was good using marshmallows, Power Bait and salmon eggs for trout. Trout fishing at the Bob Gerding Catch and Release Pond was fair using zebra midges and bead-head pheasant tails.
Trout Lakes: We had no reports from anglers this week.
