Welcome to Base Camp
Hello there, and welcome to The Daily Times' outdoors blog. We like to think of it as a supplement to our weekly outdoors section.
Why is this blog called Base Camp? Well, a base camp is defined as:
"a main encampment providing supplies, shelter and communications for persons engaged in wide-ranging activities, as exploring, reconnaissance, hunting or mountain climbing."
That's what we're hoping this turns into. We want it to be a place for our reporters and photographers -- many of whom are outdoors enthusiasts -- to share their stories and photos. And we hope the outdoors community in the Base Camp joins us, too. Plus, as we put together our outdoors stories, there's stuff -- photos, anecdotes and personal experiences -- that end up on the editing room floor. So we wanted a place to give you a behind-the-scenes look at some of our stories.
This blog also goes hand-in-hand with our latest outdoors venture. At the start of 2014, The Daily Times launched a Base Camp bucket list. At the end of each month, we'll bring you a story about an awesome place in the Base Camp you should check out.
Cool, right? But here's the deal: we already know these places rock. That's why we're writing a feature on them once a month. What we really want to know is what you think of these spots. Did you have a fun adventure at one our Bucket List places? Tell us about it and we'll get your story and photos on the blog. Even if you ventured outside our list and have a fun story to share, let us know.
To share your story or to offer suggestions or comments, you can always email City Editor Maggie Wegrzyn at email@example.com.
Thanks for reading!
