FARMINGTON — The Bloomfield wrestling team suffered a narrow defeat tonight, losing its dual against Durango, Colo., in the final match of the night.

With the dual tied at 36 and only the heavy weight class remaining, Bloomfield’s Sean Phillips was in the third period, giving the Demons a 42-36 victory.

“We scored first, then they scored. It went back and forth a little bit until we made a mistake,” Bloomfield coach Greg Shoemaker said of the final match. “We still wrestled well, and it was just one of those matches. Next time we wrestle, I’m not sure it doesn’t come out the other way.”

During the night, the Bobcats made a few mistakes that led to Durango coming back to steal some points.

“There were a few times where we had a kid on his back and couldn’t get it finished. But I was pleased with the performance,” Shoemaker said. “We have a young group of kids this year, but they’re starting to come around, and it’s good to see them improving. We’re still working on getting them in shape and improving the little things, and once that all comes around, it’ll be nice.”

Bloomfield will host its home tournament on Friday at Bobcat Gym. The dual tournament will feature 16 teams.
