Alyssa Simmons hopes to meet program's need for outside hitter

FARMINGTON — Alyssa Simmons intends to help Utah State University Eastern's volleyball program in many regards after signing with the Eagles today via athletic scholarship.

The Farmington senior outside hitter has established a record as a versatile player on the floor. Simmons tallied 214 kills, 306 digs, 53 blocks, 18 service aces and 13 assists this season.

"I hope I can continue to help (with) everything," Simmons said. "Just because the game moves so quickly, it's easy to move from offense to defense."

Simmons said one immediate need USUE had was for an outside hitter who also could contribute as a side blocker.

"I'm pretty aggressive and quick moving (on defense), so I think that'll help," Simmons said, adding she can also bring hard-hitting shots and liner attacks to the Eagle offense.

Simmons said she wants to improve her reaction time on defense and be more effective getting under quickly returned shots.

Simmons also said she wants to change her hit selections even more on offense, hit faster and incorporate more off-speed hits.

USUE is a National Junior College Athletic Association school located in Price, Utah.

Simmons said she hopes to eventually transfer to an NCAA Division I or II school after a year at USUE.
