PV sweeps Farmington in district softball doubleheader

FARMINGTON — The Piedra Vista softball team’s offense unloaded in Friday’s District 2-5A doubleheader versus Farmington, winning 7-4 and 15-3 at Farmington Sports Complex.

Piedra Vista led 3-0 after five innings in Game 1, but FHS responded with four runs in the top of the sixth.

PV then stormed back with four runs of its own in the bottom of the sixth to regain its lead for good.

PV later jumped on FHS in a hurry during the nightcap, up 9-3 after two innings to secure to the doubleheader sweep.

PV’s Rainey IronMoccasin hit 2-for-3 with three RBIs in Game 1, while Meghan Ahlgrim and Akaysia Grogan hit a combined 4-for-7 with eight total RBIs in Game 2.

PV (13-7, 2-2) will resume play at 5:30 p.m. Thursday at Rio Rancho, while Farmington (11-9, 0-2) will host West Mesa for a district doubleheader 11 a.m. next Saturday at Ricketts Softball Complex.

Lady Tigers clobber Bloomfield

Aztec’s bats ignited en route to 12-2 and 11-1 mercy-rule victories in Friday’s District 1-4A doubleheader at the Aztec Tiger Softball Complex.

Aztec’s won nine of its last 10 games, scoring nine-plus runs in each of its victories during this current stretch.

Aztec (13-6, 4-0) resumes district play with a home doubleheader against Shiprock at 3 p.m. Thursday. Bloomfield (11-9, 2-2) will play at 3 p.m. Thursday at Gallup.
