Key games to watch

Bloomfield vs. Carlsbad, 3 p.m. Thursday

The Bobcats’ lineup, which has scored 49 total runs in its last three games, is catching fire in time for the start of this week’s Kristen Griego Memorial tournament in Rio Rancho.

Now comes BHS’s latest opportunity to start adding some key resume wins with the postseason weeks away, and a win over a southern New Mexico heavyweight like Carlsbad would be that first big checkmark.

Kirtland Central vs. Los Lunas, 1 p.m. Thursday

Kirtland already has wins over Los Alamos, Española Valley and Hope Christian, as well as victories over district foes Shiprock and Bloomfield during the Aztec Tiger tournament earlier this month.

Every quality Class 4A win the Lady Broncos can get will only help them bolster their case for their fifth state playoff berth in six years.

Piedra Vista vs. West Las Vegas, 1 p.m. Thursday

PV won three of its final four games at the Southern Warrior Classic in Murfreesboro, Tennessee.

And now the Lady Panthers return to the Land of Enchantment to face the undefeated Dons in Rio Rancho.

PV will then open District 2-5A action the following weekend.
