Aztec girls soccer's season ends in 4A state semifinals against St. Pius

FARMINGTON — Aztec’s 2019 campaign ended at the hands of top-seeded St. Pius as the Lady Tigers fell 2-1 in today's 4A state girls soccer semifinals 7 at the Bernalillo Soccer Complex.
St. Pius drew first blood, but Ella Higgins scored the equalizer in the first half for fourth-seeded Aztec.
However, the Sartans tacked on the eventual game-winner late in the first half.
St. Pius has won 10 straight matches against Aztec since the 2013 season.
Aztec, which went 16-5-1 in 2019, will return most of its core group for 2020, including Autumn Roundy, EdenJames Martinez and Aspen Newland.
St. Pius (15-5) will face Albuquerque Academy in the 4A state finals at 3 p.m. Friday.
