FARMINGTON — The Aztec Lady Tigers pulled ahead en route to a 5-3 win over Los Alamos in today's 4A state girls soccer quarterfinals at the Bernalillo Soccer Complex.
Fourth-seeded Aztec, fresh off a first-round bye, knocked in three goals by halftime against fifth-seeded Los Alamos.
Aspen Newland and Ella Higgins then delivered the final two daggers in the second half.
Newland scored off a corner kick with about 25 minutes left, and Higgins scored in the final moments of the match.
Los Alamos finally found the back of the net three times in the final 12 minutes of regulation, including one goal off a penalty kick, but Aztec already did more than enough damage.
Los Alamos ended its 2019 campaign at 12-9-1.
Aztec (16-4-1) will face top-seeded St. Pius in the 4A semifinals at 2 p.m. Thursday.
