Lady Panthers top Kirtland to open 2019 soccer season

FARMINGTON — The Piedra Vista girls soccer team capitalized on its two goals on mid-range scoring chances, topping Kirtland Central 2-1 in tody's 2019 season opener.

As the first half drew to a close, sophomore forward Kasandra Funaro notched the first goal of the day. Freshman midfielder Brooklyn Silseth played the ball to Funaro, who scored from about 18 feet away.

About six minutes into the second half, freshman midfielder Madeline Clugston was double-teamed, charging toward the box, but she fired one point blank into the back of the net from about 20 feet out.

Kirtland sophomore Marissa Henry scored a goal attacking the right post in the final minute of regulation.

PV (1-0) will play in the Aztec Shootout Tournament on Aug. 23-24, while KC (0-1) will play in the Taos Tournament on Aug. 23-24.
