Key upcoming matches

Farmington vs. Hope Christian (11 a.m. Saturday at Hutchison Stadium)

The Huskies, a 4A power, have surrendered just seven goals all year. On the flip side, FHS has scored 50 team goals entering this critical non-district match. Although they’re in separate classifications, it’s a signature match for both sides that’ll help with playoff seedings.

Piedra Vista at Rio Rancho (11 a.m. Saturday)

Just like Farmington on Tuesday night, it would represent a significant Class 5A win on PV’s resume. Of course, the Panthers are quite familiar with their former district rival from the now-defunct Class 6A.

Bloomfield vs. Aztec (6 p.m. Tuesday at BHS)

The Bobcats must get their offense going in order to be relevant down the stretch. They’ve scored just nine team goals through non-district action, with only three multi-goal outings.

Farmington vs. La Cueva (6:15 p.m. Tuesday at Albuquerque Public Schools Soccer Complex, Field 4)

With FHS (9-1) and La Cueva (8-1) among the top-five in the 5A standings, this District 2-5A opener have major playoff ramifications.

It could very well be the difference between a first-round bye and playing in the opening round.
