Tom Yost wins Special Olympics New Mexico award

FARMINGTON — Piedra Vista boys golf coach Tom Yost was honored last month for his work in developing the Special Olympics golf scene across San Juan County and throughout New Mexico, according to a press release.

Yost won the 2018 Conrad Rehling Award for his involvement working with Special Olympians since 2007.

Conrad Rehling Award honors the late PGA Master Professional. Rehling, according to the release, founded the Special Olympics Golf movement in 1988.

Yost, who’s served as Executive Director of The First Tee of San Juan County, NM since 2005, founded the San Juan Special Olympics Summer Program for Level 1 and 2 Special Olympians at First Tee.

The next Special Olympics New Mexico event will be the 2018 Four Corners Invitational on Aug. 24 and 25 in Farmington, Kirtland and Aztec. The three sports at the event will be aquatics, golf and softball.

The golf events will be played at Pinon Hills Golf Course and Civitan Golf Course in Farmington, Kirtland’s Riverview Golf Course and Aztec Municpal Golf Course.
