FARMINGTON — A small handful of area 5A golfers competed as individual qualifiers in the 5A State Golf Championships Monday and Tuesday at Rockwind Community Links in Hobbs.

Dakota Halliburton from the Farmington boys team and Isabelle Peralta from the Aztec girls team both placed in the top 20 overall in their respective groups.

Halliburton shot 165 over the two-day event to tie for 16th place. Peralta shot 179 and placed 17th.

Kirtland Central’s Josiah Jenks (177 in the boys tournament) and Tiger Tsosie (195 in the girls tournament), and Aztec’s Shelby Bradford (192 in the girls tournament) rounded out the list of area qualifiers.

There were 69 total state golfers, 31 boys and 38 girls.

The Los Alamos boys (629) and the St. Pius girls (659) both won team championships.
