FARMINGTON — Piedra Vista's boys golf team has won every tournament it has taken part in this year, capping off its dominance by winning today's District 1-6A title at San Juan Country Club.

Trey Diehl, who had the best individual score at 69 strokes, Tyler Diehl (73) and River Smalley (76) all placed in the top four as individual competitors.

Since coming up short in last year's state tournament when they placed second after a scorecard error, the Panthers have won nine of their last 10 tournaments since Sept. 11, including all four in April.

Meanwhile, the PV girls placed third. Shandiin Harper had the second-best individual girls score with an 82.

Cleveland was crowned the District 1-6A girls golf champion.

The PV boys have already qualified for state as a team back on Sept. 26, while Harper qualified for state as an individual back on Oct 2.

Four total qualifying scores, commonly known as legs, spanning the fall 2017 and spring 2018 seasons are required to make this year's New Mexico Activities Association 6A State Golf Championships as a team or individual.

PV will host the 6A state tournament next Monday and Tuesday at Piñon Hills Golf Course.
