Piedra Vista again hammers district foe Highland, this time in 5A playoff opener

FARMINGTON – Piedra Vista’s offense again did plenty of damage against District 1-5A foe Highland, this time cruising to a 55-15 victory in tonight’s 5A state football playoff opener at Hutchison Stadium in Farmington.

Jarrod Mitchell got things rolling with 29-yard and 13-yard touchdown runs.

As the first half progressed, the game quickly got out of hand. PV kept muscling in 10-yard runs here, quick five or 10-yard passes there.

And the running clock was turned on 40 seconds into the third quarter after a 19-yard touchdown run by Mitchell made it a 35-point game.

PV’s Michael Candelaria had a pair of touchdown runs.

Piedra Vista (8-3) will play at Goddard in the 5A state quarterfinals next Saturday.

Kirtland Central crushes Moriarty in 4A playoff opener

The Broncos’ offense continued its recent dominance en route to a 49-10 win tonight at Bill Cawood Field in Kirtland.

KC quarterback Troy White-David delivered the first two blows in the second quarter on a 40-yard touchdown pass to Dallin Mangelson, plus a two-yard touchdown run of his own.

Kirtland then put the game away in a hurry with 35 points in the second half.

KC (6-4) will travel to Grants for next weekend’s 4A state quarterfinals.
