FARMINGTON — Caleb Carrillo demonstrated he can quickly respond to a rough outing with consecutive lights-out outings, earning Daily Times athlete of the month honors for October.

After enduring a season-low 67.7 quarterback rating with three interceptions against Durango on Sept. 20, the Farmington quarterback has completed 78.9 percent of passes for 850 yards and 13 touchdown passes in his last three starts.

Carrillo’s quarterback rating over his last three games is 139.7.

Carrillo has 2,418 passing yards, with a 66.5-percent completion percentage and a quarterback rating of 122.8, and 29 touchdown passes entering the Scorpions’ upcoming district game Friday against Miyamura.

Honorable mentions

Newcomb football’s Deondre Begay

The Skyhawks quarterback had his best game of 2019 when it mattered most: Newcomb’s 40-28 win last Friday at Escalante to clinch the District 1/5-2A title.

Begay had 327 passing yards and five touchdown passes that night. He tallied 575 passing yards and eight touchdown passes in his last three starts.

The Skyhawks will wrap up the regular season hosting Thoreau on Friday.

Aztec boys soccer’s Francisco Villegas

Just this month alone, the Tigers forward has scored 17 of his 22 goals through Tuesday.

Bloomfield volleyball’s Halle Payne

The Bobcats outside hitter’s had a well-rounded month so far, accumulating 82 kills, 91 digs and 10 service aces through Tuesday.
