Here are some key Week 9 football games to watch in and around San Juan County

Matt Hollinshead,

Kirtland Central vs. Aztec

The Broncos (3-3) finally found their groove on the scoring end, scoring 42 points in back-to-back games.

Kirtland did so against quality foes in Grants and Moriarty.

KC can start fresh and launch a playoff run after a rough start to 2019. But opening District 1-4A play against the Tigers will be a tall order.

Aztec (6-1) is not only contending for the district title, but also a first-round bye in the 4A playoffs.

Kirtland Central and Aztec, seen here playing in a District 1-4A football game on Friday, Oct. 19, 2018 at Fred Cook Memorial Stadium in Aztec, will do battle in Friday's District 1-4A opener at Bill Cawood Field in Kirtland.

Farmington vs. Highland

The Scorpions (6-1) are riding high after a 68-point scoring barrage at Bayfield, Colorado.

FHS will be in the hunt for the District 1-5A title, and a possible first-round bye in the 5A playoffs.

Highland (5-2) is off to its best start since 2010, which produced an 8-2 record, but the Hornets have yet to generate a signature win.

All five of Highland’s victories came against sub-.500 competition, though.

How they fare versus Farmington to start District 1-5A action will be quite revealing.
