Here are some critical Week 8 football games to watch in San Juan County

Matt Hollinshead,

Piedra Vista vs. Roswell

The Panthers have home field advantage against the Coyotes this time in a critical 5A rematch.

Piedra Vista, which is averaging 39 points in its last four games, would be another step closer to a possible first-round bye in the 5A playoffs.

Roswell beat PV 26-14 in last year’s matchup, which kept PV from potentially getting a first-round bye in 2018.

The Panthers (5-1) must get a win over a foe of Roswell’s caliber to be ready for a deeper 5A playoff run. It won’t be easy, though.

Roswell (6-0) is also putting up blistering numbers on the scoreboard. Roswell is averaging 55.3 points a game, including 54-plus points scored in each of its last three games.

Expect a high-scoring slugfest in this one.

Kirtland Central's Zakk Thomas dives into the end zone for a four-yard touchdown run against Grants on Friday, Sept. 27 at Bill Cawood Field in Kirtland. The Broncos will host Moriarty in Friday's homecoming game.

Kirtland Central vs. Moriarty

The Broncos (2-3) need a second quality victory to aid their chances at returning to the 4A playoffs in November.

Kirtland opened 2019 on a rough note, but it has a golden opportunity to make up ground facing the Pintos (2-4) on Homecoming night.

Both sides are fighting to stay in the 4A playoff picture, and a win over a 4A adversary will only help bolster Kirtland’s postseason résumé.
