FARMINGTON – Bloomfield quarterback Vince Marquez has been named the Daily Times athlete of the month following his efforts in critical resume games in September.
Marquez endured the gauntlet of the Bobcats' non-district football schedule, featuring back-to-back home games versus Los Alamos and Hope Christian, and he still posted strong numbers.
He threw for 1,095 passing yards with 13 touchdown passes in Bloomfield's three September games so far. He also generated 156 rushing yards and four touchdown runs during that span.
Marquez has 1,773 total yards of offense with 27 combined touchdowns in 2019.
Shiprock's Kaydence Platero
The Lady Chieftains cross country runner won both the David Charles Cross Country Invitational girls race on Sept. 7 in Rehoboth with a time of 21 minutes and 10 seconds.
Platero also won the Shiprock Invitational girls race last Saturday with a new personal best 19:45.1.
Bloomfield boys soccer's Cesar Ramirez
Ramirez has tallied 11 goals on 25 shots on goal so far this month, including nine goals on 13 shots on goal in the last two matches alone.
He has 18 goals and four assists in 2019.
Aztec football's Alex Parra
The Tigers running back ran for 442 yards on 74 carries with six touchdown runs in his last three games. Parra has 704 total rushing yards and 11 rushing touchdowns in 2019.
