Bloomfield rolls past Moriarty to advance to next round
FARMINGTON — Piedra Vista jumped on Del Norte quickly, pulling away to a 55-35 victory in tonight’s 5A playoff opener at Hutchison Stadium.
The Panther defense forced multiple turnovers on downs, thanks to plenty of group tackles and pass breakups. From there, the offense took command.
After Trent Kiraly faked a handoff to Mckay Cook to score on a 60-yard touchdown run, PV broke the game open on Cameron Swarts’ 94-yard kick return for a touchdown as he bolted down the right side.
PV generated a 41-7 lead by the 9:45 mark in the third quarter and didn't look back.
The fifth-seeded Panthers (8-3) will travel about 420 miles southeast to fourth-seeded Artesia for the 5A quarterfinals Nov. 17 at the Bulldog Bowl.
Artesia received a first-round playoff bye.
The two sides previously met in the 2015 5A semifinals, which Artesia won 42-35.
