Scropions lose at Belen while Tigers fall to Clovis

FARMINGTON — Piedra Vista and Bloomfield put on high-scoring performances on the gridiron, posting key victories tonight.

The Panthers hammered St. Pius 38-6 at Hutchison Stadium, while the Bobcats blasted 2A power Escalante 71-21 at Bobcat Stadium.

Bloomfield got off to a fast start on the scoreboard, leading 39-8 in the second quarter and not looking back from there. PV also opened strong, scoring 28 points before halftime.

Bloomfield (2-0) will host St. Michael’s at 7 p.m. Sept. 7, while PV (1-1) will host Valley that same day and time.

Aztec, Farmington drop key battles

The Tigers lost 49-20 against 6A’s Clovis tonight at Fred Cook Stadium, while the Scorpions again couldn’t get their offense going in their 26-12 loss at Belen.

Aztec gave Clovis serious trouble much of the night, making it a 21-20 ballgame with 5:11 left in the third quarter. However, Clovis eventually pulled away.

Aztec couldn’t stop Clovis’ ground game as the fourth quarter progressed, all while struggling to score on critical possessions.

The Tigers (1-1) will play at Taos at 7 p.m. Sept. 7, while Farmington (0-2) will face Del Norte that same day and time at Milne Stadium in Albuquerque.

Kirtland blows fourth-quarter lead

Up 10-0 with 5:36 left in regulation, the Broncos surrendered a pair of touchdowns and lost 14-10 against Colorado's Montezuma-Cortez in tonight's home opener.

Kirtland has scored a combined 17 points in its first two weeks.

KC (0-2) will play at noon Sept. 8 at St. Pius.
