FARMINGTON — The Farmington football team handed visiting Miyamura its first defeat of the season during a District 1-5A game tonight at Hutchison Stadium.

The Scorpions outlasted the Patriots 54-40. Coach Jeff Dalton said the Scorpions' strength was the team's resolve.

"We were battle tested early in the season," he said.

He said that experience came into play tonight.

The fast-paced game challenged both the Patriots and the Scorpions, but Farmington finally pulled ahead in the second half.

During the decisive third quarter, Farmington's Kale Lucas recovered the ball after his teammate Jacob Brown fumbled it and ran the ball to the Miyamura 1-yard line. Quarterback Isaiah Jaramillo then ran the ball into the end zone for the touchdown.

Later in the quarter, Ethan Todd also scored once while Johnny Shuttleworth scored two more touchdowns for the Scorpions. The Miyamura offense could manage only one touchdown during the period.

The Scorpions (6-3, 4-0) will face Bloomfield (3-5, 1-2) on Thursday at Hutchison Stadium in Farmington.

The Broncos got their offense going and won their first District 1-5A game of the year tonight at Bronco Stadium.

Kirtland Central jumped out to a 23-0 lead and never looked back.

“That really set the tone,” KC coach Greg Jenks said. “Of course it feels good. I think the boys themselves were sick of losing. Everybody was ready to get back in the win column.”

Kirtland Central (5-4, 1-3) will host Gallup at 7 p.m. Nov. 3, while Bloomfield (3-6, 1-3) will play at 7 p.m. Nov. 2 at Farmington.
