FARMINGTON — The Navajo Prep Eagles countered Tohatchi’s bigs by delivering quick passes into the paint, pulling away for a 55-39 win in Thursday’s District 1-3A semifinals at the Eagles Nest.

Prep initially struggled to move the ball inward in the second half, as Tohatchi clogged much of the low post left and right.

But as the Cougars started closing up space out toward the perimeter, Prep’s post players created just enough distance in the paint to receive the ball quickly for easy scoring chances.

Prep (19-7) will host Thoreau at 6 p.m. Saturday in the District 1-3A tournament championship game.
