KIRTLAND – The Kirtland Central Lady Broncos kept fighting for key steals and 3-pointers in the third quarter, triumphing over Gallup 46-38 tonight at Bronco Arena to win the District 1-4A tournament title.

Both sides knocked down big shots in the opening minutes. Both sides fought for every offensive board they could, every shot they could.

But as the third quarter progressed, the Lady Broncos dove for and swiped at the ball for key takeaways and capitalized on some key scoring chances.

KC clung to a single-digit lead down the stretch, but did enough to make it a two-possession ball down in the final minutes. And they closed out the tough battle right in front the Kirtland Central basketball faithful.

Kirtland (24-3) has won 21 of its last 22 games overall.

Now KC will find out how high they’ll be seeded in this year’s 4A state tournament when the bracket comes out at 6 p.m. Sunday online at nmact.org.
