FARMINGTON — The Kirtland Central Lady Broncos came out blazing fast and trampled Bloomfield en route to a 71-34 District 1-4A tournament semifinals win on Wednesday.
KC knocked multiple 3s from the corners, and also generated easy points cutting into the post from the outer lanes.
Meanwhile, Bloomfield couldn’t get things going. The Bobcats tried to get things going off deeper outlet passes and quicker shot releases, but to no avail.
Kirtland (23-3) will host Gallup in the district tournament championship game at 6 p.m. Friday.
Prep girls, Newcomb girls also finals-bound
The Lady Eagles pushed past Thoreau with constant defensive pressure in the second half in Wednesday’s District 1-3A tournament semifinals, winning 65-43 at the Eagles Nest.
Elsewhere, NHS had another strong outing on defense to oust Rehoboth Christian 45-27 in Wednesday’s District 1-2A tournament semifinals at RCHS.
Prep (18-9) will host Crownpoint in Friday’s District 1-3A tournament title game, while Newcomb (15-13) will travel to Dulce for Friday’s District 1-2A tournament finals.
FHS boys top Piedra Vista
The Scorpions came away with a 69-64 District 2-5A tournament quarterfinals win Wednesday at Jerry A. Conner Fieldhouse in Farmington.
Farmington started building a small cushion with some key stops near the inner passing lanes and some quick pull-up jumpers.
Although PV (9-18) made it a one-possession game late in the fourth quarter, FHS (14-13) stayed the course. The Scorpions drove to the rim and were rewarded multiple trips to the foul line to close out the game.
Farmington will travel to Eldorado for the District 2-5A tournament semifinals, which starts at 6:30 p.m. tonight.
