FARMINGTON – Piedra Vista’s Logan Birch looks to keep evolving on the pitching mound as he braces for the next level playing for Paradise Valley Community College.
Birch, who signed with PVCC today via athletic scholarship, largely served as a long reliever in 2019 but is preparing to get more starts moving forward.
And after meeting the Paradise Valley coaching the staff through the program’s scout team, Birch said even logging an inning out of the bullpen can help if the team’s in a tough situation, such as needing a big out or two.
Birch also said he can help Paradise Valley, which located in Phoenix, with his fastball and curveball and occasionally his changeup.
“I have a good speed difference between my fastball and curveball, so it’d really throw off the hitters if I need to,” Birch said.
Going forward, Birch said he wants to alter his velocity and pitch grip on his off-speed pitches. Birch also said he wants to keep working on attacking the bottom part of the strike zone more consistently.
And after a year or two at Paradise Valley, Birch said he hopes to eventually transfer to an NCAA Division I program such as Grand Canyon University or Arizona State University.
