FARMINGTON — Kirtland Central and Aztec both remain unbeaten in District 1-4A baseball action at 2-0.

KC topped Shiprock 10-0 Thursday at KCHS, while Aztec won 5-2 Thursday at Bloomfield.

The Broncos broke open their game against the Chieftains in the bottom of the fifth inning, thanks to Cadan Flack’s two-run, inside-the-park home run.

Flack belted the ball and approached third base, but the ball flew past the third base line toward the fence behind home plate. Flack managed to score from there.

Flack hit 2-for-3 and also threw a complete-game shutout.

Up 5-0, Kirtland tacked on five more runs in the bottom of the sixth to secure the mercy-rule win.

Aztec, meanwhile, opened with a 4-0 lead and didn’t look back.

Kirtland (9-4) has won six of its last eight games, while Aztec (13-5) has won 10 of its last 11.
