PV, FHS ranked in first 5A baseball poll of 2019
FARMINGTON — Piedra Vista and Farmington have done plenty to be among the top 5A baseball squads in the first New Mexico Overtime Sports Center poll of 2019.
Despite losing four of its last five games, PV is No. 6 in Class 5A after beating St. Pius, Hobbs, Clovis, Albuquerque Academy, Belen and Cleveland.
Farmington is No. 7 in Class 5A after generating wins over Miyamura, Oñate, Centennial, Las Cruces and Goddard.
Farmington (9-4) will host Rangeview, Colorado in a doubleheader at 4 p.m. Thursday at Ricketts Park.
PV (8-5) will again face Hobbs in a doubleheader at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Albuquerque Sports Complex.
Kirtland baseball also ranked
The Broncos are No. 10 in the first 4A poll of 2019 after back-to-back 10-run mercy rule victories.
Kirtland (7-2) returns to the diamond at 4 p.m. Thursday at Los Lunas.
PV, Aztec softball teams ranked
Piedra Vista, which won three of its final four Southern Warrior Classic tournament games last weekend, is No. 6 in the first 5A poll. Aztec is No. 4 in the first 4A poll.
PV (7-4) will take on West Las Vegas at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Kristen Griego Memorial tournament in Rio Rancho, while Aztec (5-5) will face Belen at 1 p.m. Thursday in Rio Rancho.
