Scorpions dominate at Southern NM Invitational

FARMINGTON — The Farmington Scorpions dominated their competition at this weekend’s Southern New Mexico Invitational baseball tournament in Las Cruces.

Farmington’s bats ignited in FHS’s 18-9 win Thursday over Oñate, and then they delivered again with five runs in the final two innings en route to a 6-3 win Friday over Centennial. 

Capping off their strong tournament outing with Saturday’s 7-2 win over Las Cruces, the Scorpions extended their win streak to five games. 

FHS has scored six-plus runs in each of its last five games.

Farmington (6-1) will open the Coach Bob Invitational tournament 6 p.m. Monday against Douglas County, Colorado in Chandler, Arizona.

Kirtland softball wins St. Pius tournament

The Lady Broncos’ bats went off Thursday through Saturday, tallying 38 combined runs.

After crushing Los Alamos 16-5 on Thursday, KC had an eight-run outburst in the sixth inning Friday to beat Española Valley 13-12. Kirtland then edged Hope Christian 9-8 on Saturday to secure the title.

Kirtland (5-3) will face Piedra Vista in a doubleheader at Noon Monday in Farmington.

KC track duo wins events in Rio Rancho

Jacob Hawkins won the boys 800-meter race in two minutes, 2.77 seconds, at Saturday’s Rio Rancho Rust Buster meet, while Kashon Harrison (4:29:12) won the boys 1,600-meter race.

Kirtland placed third overall in team results.
