PV's Alex Kuhn signs with Eastern New Mexico

FARMINGTON — Baseball player Alex Kuhn has yet to showcase his speed at the high school varsity level as a senior, but he already plans to take advantage of that physical gift as he looks ahead to continuing his career at the collegiate level.

The Piedra Vista outfielder looks to make quick plays on offense and defense this spring, something he hopes will carry over into his career at NCAA Division II Eastern New Mexico University in Portales.

"I'm pretty quick on my feet," Kuhn said after signing his Letter of Intent today and joining the Greyhounds on an athletic scholarship.

Kuhn can track down the ball quickly in the outfield and throw it back to the infield. Kuhn also has good speed on the basepaths, often bunting for a base hit.

Kuhn said it's possible he can help ENMU's lineup as either the first or second hitter in the lineup so the Greyhounds can better use his speed.

Hitting wise, Kuhn said he's working on being more aggressive and making contact early in the count.

On defense, Kuhn said he's working on on developing a better read on where incoming balls will land in the outfield.

"If I just get my body back there behind the ball, I think I'll be fine," Kuhn said.

TeammateBrendan Anderson signs with South Mountain C.C.

The Panthers senior pitcher officially joined the Cougar program today. South Mountain is a National Junior College Athletic Association program located in Phoenix.

Anderson said South Mountain doesn't offer athletic scholarships to out-of-state players, but he has a spot on the roster.

Anderson said he was drawn to South Mountain's good track record of developing pitchers, particularly in helping pitchers improve their velocity.

Anderson said the Cougars will help him develop the velocity in his curveball even more, something he acknowledged still needs work.

"I need to be more consistent with it. Sometimes, the velocity's down on it a little bit, and sometimes it hangs," Anderson said.

Anderson said he hopes to make the jump to an NCAA Division I program within the next two years.

Anderson went 8-0 in nine appearances on the mound for the Panthers last season.

PV softball'sCheyenne Stark signs with Grayson College

The Panthers senior infielder signed her Letter of intent via athletic scholarship today to play softball for the Vikings, an NJCAA program in Denison, Texas. 

Stark hit 10 home runs last season, typically doing damage against pitches on the outer corners of the plate.

Stark said she hopes to make a quick impact for Grayson, which she also said is known for having a strong offense.

"They're a big hitting team, and it made me feel like I was at home," Stark said.
