PV boys golf wins Shootout in the Desert title

FARMINGTON — The Piedra Vista boys golf team continued its dominance on the course, winning Monday’s Shootout in the Desert tournament at the Canyon Club in Albuquerque.

The Panthers shot 311, seven strokes better than second-place El Paso, Texas-Eastwood and 13 strokes better than third-place La Cueva.

Trey Diehl shot a score of 71 and was the only one to shoot under par.

River Smalley and Tyler Diehl shot 77 and 79, respectively.

PV will resume play at 10 a.m. on April 23 at the Dolores Invitational at Conquistador Golf Course in Cortez, Colorado.

Area baseball, softball teams still ranked

PV and Farmington are No. 7 and No. 8, respectively, in this week’s New Mexico Overtime Sports Center 5A baseball rankings. Aztec is No. 5 in this week’s 4A baseball poll.

PV is No. 8 in the latest 5A softball rankings, while Aztec and Bloomfield are No. 4 and 10, respectively, in the latest 4A softball rankings.
