Farmington, PV, Aztec cheer squads near top of state finishers

Farmington placed fifth in 5A-6A co-ed cheer and 5A dance competitions at state Saturday in Albuquerque. Aztec, Piedra Vista, Bloomfield and Kirtland Central also competed at state.

FARMINGTON — Multiple area cheer squads took center stage in Saturday's New Mexico Activities Association state spirit championships at the Dreamstyle Arena in Albuquerque, and they delivered strong results.

Farmington placed fifth out of 15 teams in the 5A-6A co-ed cheer competition with 145.84 team points, as well as fifth out of nine squads in the 5A dance portion of the event with 164 team points.

Piedra Vista placed sixth out of 18 teams in the 6A dance competition with 166.2 points, as well as eighth in the 5A-6A co-ed cheer event with 139.1 points.

Aztec placed fifth out of 13 teams in the 5A cheer competition with 152.84 points.

Bloomfield (134.34) and Kirtland Central (128.69) also competed in the 5A-6A co-ed cheer competition, placing 11th and 15th, respectively.
