Needing two wins against top-seeded Seattle on Saturday, the New Mexico State softball team lost a hard-fought 3-2 decision in the Western Athletic Conference Tournament championship game in Phoenix, Arizona.

The Aggies ended the season 33-22.

NM State nearly had another comeback on Saturday after a tournament full of close games.

New Mexico State trailed 3-0 entering the sixth inning, but made it 3-2 with two runs in the sixth on run-scoring hits from Nikki Butler and Victoria Castro.

But the Aggies couldn't bring across a tying run against Seattle pitcher Carley Nance, who held the Aggies to three hits with seven strikeouts in seven innings.

Seattle was the only team to beat NM State in Phoenix, beating the Aggies 8-7 on Friday to knock the Aggies into the loser's bracket.
