Event features wrestlers from 19 states across country
FARMINGTON — More than 1,800 young wrestlers from 19 states descended on McGee Park Convention Center for today’s Aztec Warrior Championships wrestling tournament.
From the first whistle, they twisted, flipped and threw each other around, eyeing spots in Sunday’s championship round.
The competitors ranged from ages 6 to 18.
Some represented San Juan County, while others came from neighboring Colorado, Utah and Arizona. Wrestlers came from as far away as Florida and West Virginia.
The Aztec Warrior Championships tournament is the largest wrestling tournament held in New Mexico, according to Rocky Mountain National Events’ website.
