FARMINGTON — Several San Juan County athletes have been selected for the state All Star football and volleyball teams.

The rosters and schedule were released this week. The team members were selected by coaches in New Mexico.

The volleyball games will be played June 7. Navajo Prep's Martinique Larvingo made the 3A/4A North All Star volleyball team and Aztec's Taley Ferrari made the 5A/6A North All Star volleyball team.

The 3A/4A All Star football game will be at 7 p.m. June 8. Shiprock receiver Quaid Shorty will play for the 3A/4A North All Star football team.

Shorty scored six touchdowns during the district title game. Shiprock Coach Eric Stovall said the selection reflects the hard work that Shorty has put both into athletics and school.

"I'm really proud that he is going to represent our team and our school," Stovall said.

Shorty will be joined by Newcomb High School lineman Tracy Bryant.

The 5A/6A All Star football game will be played at 7 p.m. June 9. Aztec High School quarterback Cody Smith is on the roster for the 5A/6A North All Star team.

Aztec High School Coach Matthew Steinfeldt said in a text message that the honor of being named to the North All Star team is well deserved for Smith.

"He has worked his entire career toward this goal," Steinfeldt said.

He said Smith finished his prep career ranked fourth in New Mexico high school football history for passing yardage and fifth for passing touchdowns.

"Cody is not only one of the best QBs this year, but one of the best ever," Steinfeldt said.

Smith will be joined on the team by Piedra Vista High School defensive lineman Talon Ball and Farmington High School wide receiver Jacob Brown.
