FARMINGTON — The Farmington boys soccer team advanced to the finals of the Albuquerque Academy Invitational, holding off Capital 1-0 Friday.

"The boys played fantastic," FHS head coach Byron Farnsworth said. "It was the most complete game we've played this season."

Farnsworth said the FHS defense did a good job controlling the backline to keep Capital from finding the goal.

Joaquin Gonzalez scored the lone goal for the Scorps.

In today's final, FHS will take on Albuquerque Academy. Academy beat Los Alamos 2-0 to advance to the finals.

Farnsworth said he wants the Scorps to build off of the Capital win and continue working as a team in the championship match.

Sandia Prep 10, Bloomfield 3

The Bobcats just didn't come to play Friday afternoon at Sandia Prep.

After having allowed no more than three goals in any game this season, the Bloomfield boys soccer team (5-4) had a second-half meltdown Friday and fell 10-3 to Sandia Prep (5-2). "Even though we had some injury problems in the second half, it's not acceptable," Bobcats coach Scott Reid said. "Today, it was just one of those games where nobody was talking, people were standing around and there wasn't that competitiveness to come out and fight for a win."

The first half actually was competitive.

Bloomfield fell behind 1-0 before Sammy Gutierrez scored to tie the game. Nearly 30 minutes into the first half, Sandia Prep took a 2-1 lead, and Gutierrez answered with his second goal of the game to tie it again. Prep would take a 3-2 lead into halftime before scoring a whopping seven times in the game's final 40 minutes.

The Bobcats will have a quick turnaround, hosting Bosque today at 4 at Mesa Alta Junior High in Bloomfield.
