Complaint: Couple kidnapped man at gunpoint over drug dispute
FARMINGTON — A Farmington couple is being sought on warrants in the alleged kidnapping of a man at gunpoint.
Scott Randell Helt and Taylor Jacquez were each charged Wednesday in Aztec Magistrate Court with first-degree felony kidnapping.
They are accused of kidnapping Drew Williams on Sept. 8 from the Wildflower subdivision near Farmington.
Helt, 38, was also charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon on allegations he used a gun and a knife to threaten Williams during the incident.
Both subjects remained at-large Monday, according to court records.
Williams was located on Western Circle in Aztec by police officers shortly before 9:45 p.m. on Sept. 8, according to an arrest warrant affidavit.
Williams told police he and a friend met with Jacquez, 27, and another man, later identified as Helt, to smoke marijuana in the Wildflower subdivision earlier in the day, the affidavit states.
Williams told police they smoked marijuana in his friend's car and, as they were about to leave, Helt allegedly brandished a gun and ordered Williams to get into Jacquez's vehicle.
They drove for a while and Helt then transferred Williams to his own vehicle, according to the affidavit.
They then drove to a residence on Western Street in Aztec, at which point Williams removed a can of bear pepper spray from his pocket and sprayed Helt in the face with it, the affidavit states.
Williams was then able to flee the vehicle and contact police, according to the affidavit.
Williams told detectives he believed Helt and Jacquez kidnapped him to pressure two of his friends into paying drug debts they allegedly owed.
Anyone with information on the couple's whereabouts is urged to contact the San Juan County Sheriff's Office at 505-334-6622 or San Juan County Crime Stoppers at 505-334-8477.
