Farmington police officer charged with sexually assaulting relatives
FARMINGTON — A Farmington police officer was arrested Friday for allegedly sexually assaulting two young relatives, according to a press release from the San Juan County Sheriff's Office.
Richard Emmert, 26, of Farmington was identified as a suspect on Aug. 25, according to the press release. The sheriff's office then contacted the Farmington Police Department, which placed Emmert on administrative leave.
According to the press release, Emmert allegedly sexually abused two of his female relatives on multiple occasions and at different locations.
The reported abuse happened prior to Emmert being employed by the Farmington Police Department, according to the press release.
He has been charged with criminal sexual penetration of a child younger than 13, incest and criminal sexual contact of a minor.
Emmert was being held at the San Juan County Detention Center on a $250,000 cash-only bond.
