Letters to the Editor: A note from the Chief of PD on skiing
From the Chief
This article will have nothing to do with the latest in speeders or fire danger, however, it will address a little known fact.
There are four Wednesdays, last two in January and first two in February, that are ski days. Ski Apache has partnered with local schools for a great opportunity for our young people and even this old dad, to be able to go up and ski for a reduced fee.
In a nutshell, if a student has good grades, has not been in any trouble at school and is otherwise permitted, they can leave school early on those Wednesdays and ski.
I bring this up because of an encounter I had on the lift with one of our young people. As we got on the lift, I started to talk to the little boy, he is a fifth grader at WME, and asked him if he was having fun. H
e said he was and that it was his first time up on the mountain and he was so excited and appreciative that he was able to come up and go skiing. Needless to say his smile and excitement were contagious and I felt like I should let you all know.
