SILVER CITY – Republican Luis Terrazas was elected to represent House District 39, ousting Democratic incumbent Rodolpho “Rudy” Martinez.

“It makes me feels extremely good that (my constituents) have trust … and I hope that they know that I will be there to be their servant and help them the best that I can,” Terrazas said. “And I will always try to do everything I can to make myself available for them.”

He also thanked Martinez for the many years he served District 39.

Terrazas, who owns Terrazas Funeral Chapel, won by almost 650 votes, earning 53% of the vote. Martinez held the position since 2017, and during several periods in the 2000s and 2010s.

“There are many goals that we want to accomplish, and we sometimes have different avenues we want to take to accomplish the same goals. But I hope that we can bridge those gaps and hopefully overcome the division and bring our all of our state and our community together. That's my goal,” Terrazas said.

Martinez could not be reached for comment.
