Three local high school graduates have passed the first milestone of their military careers.
U.S. Air Force Airmen Mercedes D. Turner, Ryan S. Hanson and Deklyn A. Quail graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland in San Antonio, Texas.
Turner is the daughter of Jason L. and Sandy L. Turner of Blanco. She is a 2018 graduate of Aztec High School.
Hanson is a 2018 graduate of a home school program in Bloomfield.
Quail is the son of Mandy and Tyson Quail and the brother of Zachary Quail of Farmington. He is a 2018 graduate of Piedra Vista High School. The Air Force did not make a photo available.
The airmen each completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills, according to a press release.
Airmen who complete basic training also earn four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force, the release stated.
