Deadline for health exchange coverage nears
FARMINGTON — The deadline for New Mexicans to have health coverage on Jan. 1, 2017, through the state’s health insurance exchange is fast approaching.
Anyone interested in buying insurance must complete the enrollment process through BeWellnm, the New Mexico Health Insurance Exchange, by Thursday to have health insurance for the start of 2017, according to a press release.
The enrollment process started on Nov. 1 and runs through Jan. 31.
A statement from BeWellnm and the New Mexico Office of Superintendent of Insurance on Nov. 10 said there has been no change to the Affordable Care Act, and the open enrollment process will continue. The statement was made in response to the 2016 presidential election, where the future of the ACA was discussed and speculated upon.
People with plans or providers that are no longer offered by the exchange will automatically be re-enrolled to a provider and plan that is similar to their current plan to help avoid gaps in coverage, according to the press release.
Enrollment Assistance Centers statewide, including in Farmington, will be open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday. The Farmington center located at 1305 E. 20th St. will be open Wednesday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. for walk-ins and from 5 to 8 p.m. by appointment only.
For information on the enrollment process, visit bewellnm.com, or call the toll-free number at 855-996-6449 or the Farmington Enrollment Assistance Center at 505-258-4058.
