Police investigate fatal crash on Highway 550

FARMINGTON — Deputies from the San Juan County Sheriff's Office responded Monday afternoon to a fatal crash north of the Hilltop Giant gas station on U.S. Highway 550.

Sheriff's Office Detective Lt. Kyle Lincoln said deputies were dispatched at 3:05 p.m. Monday to milemarker 146 on U.S. Highway 550, located north of the Hilltop Giant gas station, after receiving reports of a rollover crash.

Lincoln said one man was killed after he was ejected approximately 30 feet from the vehicle, which rolled into a ditch.

Lincoln said deputies found a woman and a young child inside the vehicle. The woman was injured, but was conscious and breathing. The child appeared to be unharmed, according to Lincoln.

New Mexico State Police officials are investigating the crash.

State police Sgt. Chad Pierce confirmed the driver of the vehicle was killed, but said additional information regarding the incident was not immediately available.

U.S. Highway 550 remained open to traffic during the investigation.
