Navajo Nation president names directors for NDOT, telecom regulation commission
FARMINGTON — Navajo Nation President Russell Begaye has announced two more appointments within his administration, according to a press release from his office.
M. Teresa Hopkins has been appointed executive director of the Navajo Nation Telecommunications Regulatory Commission.
Prior to the appointment, Hopkins was the deputy director of the Administrative Offices of the Courts under the Judicial Branch.
According to the release, she worked for the branch for eight years, serving as the director of special projects and as project manager of the Navajo Nation Integrated Justice Information Sharing Project.
"If you look at her background, it's always been in telecommunications. She has a very strong background and is very knowledgeable," Begaye said in the release.
The president also named Garret Silversmith as executive director of the Navajo Division of Transportation. Begaye previously named Roland Becenti to the position in May. A spokesman for the president said Becenti did not take the job for "personal reasons."
Silversmith worked for the Department of Transportation under the Bureau of Indian Affairs in Chinle, Ariz.
"He did a lot of work on the nation and now, he is going to help us. We are excited about Garret Silversmith heading up NDOT," Begaye said.
