FARMINGTON — No fire restrictions are in affect on the Navajo Nation as of July 1, according to a public announcement from the Navajo Forestry Department.

But the department is asking the public to practice safety when using campfires during the holiday weekend. Officials advise campers not to leave campfires unattended and to keep campfires at a manageable size.

Another safety tip is making sure campfires are completely extinguished, and campers should make sure all trash and personal items are taken before they leave any areas.

The department is also reminding the public that tribal law prohibits the use and possession of fireworks on the Navajo Nation.
