NAPI contractor hits man sleeping in field

Incident took place early Thursday near Navajo Route 36

FARMINGTON — A contractor for Navajo Agricultural Products Industry was involved in an accident that left a man injured early Thursday in a field near Navajo Route 36.

In a statement released today, the tribal enterprise reported the contractor was operating equipment to cut hay in an area north of the housing area in Ojo Amarillo at approximately 4:45 a.m. Thursday when he hit a man who apparently was sleeping in the field.

The man was described as a non-NAPI employee and allegedly was found intoxicated at the time of the incident, the release states.

He sustained injuries and received first aid from NAPI personnel before being transported to the San Juan Regional Medical Center, according to the release.

The extent of the man's injuries was not known, and the incident was under investigation by the Navajo Nation Police Department, the release states.
