FARMINGTON — A group on the Navajo Nation has organized a candidate forum for the three individuals seeking to represent the chapters of Beclabito, Cove, Gadii'ahi-Tokoi, Red Valley, Toadlena-Two Grey Hills, Tooh Haltsooí and Tsé Alnaozt'i'í on the Navajo Nation Council.

Incumbent Amber Kanazbah Crotty is being challenged by Irvin Tyler and Lee J. Zhonnie to represent the seven chapters.

The primary election for the tribe is Aug. 28.

Larry Lewis, chairman for the 2018 Dzil Miit'aa Candidates Forum Committee, said the forum was arranged to help voters receive information about the candidates and to listen to platforms and viewpoints.

Candidates will be asked questions ranging from community improvements to understanding responsibilities as a council delegate during the forum, Lewis said.

Voters will also have the opportunity to meet candidates for offices at the state and county level as well as for the tribal presidency, he added.

The 2018 Dzil Miit'aa Candidates Forum will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday at the Phil L. Thomas Performing Arts Center in Shiprock.
