The Office of Diné Youth in Shiprock held a kickoff event for its summer programming on Monday. Attendees were treated to activities, music and food, and they collected information from booths. During summer break, the program will operate services for youth from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Monday to Thursday. The program will have lunch service as part of the summer meal program under the Central Consolidated School District. Wetona Becenti, program supervisor for ODY, said the kickoff provided families the opportunity to visit the facility and learn about programs and memberships. Up to 200 people, including tribal President Russell Begaye, attended the event, she said.
