Navajo president appoints economic development director

FARMINGTON — Navajo Nation President Russell Begaye has appointed a former member of the tribe's gaming enterprise board of directors to lead the Division of Economic Development.

Sean McCabe was appointed on Monday, according to a press release from the president's office.

The position became open after Crystal J. Deschinny resigned on Jan. 2.

McCabe is a managing member of the McCabe CPA Group LLC in Albuquerque and a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the New Mexico Society of Certified Public Accountants.

He is from Fort Defiance Chapter in Arizona and earned a bachelor's degree in accounting from Fort Lewis College in Durango, Colo.

McCabe has also served on the board of directors for the Notah Begay III Foundation and the NOVA Corporation and on the Minority Initiative Committee for the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.

The Division of Economic Development director is appointed by the president with approval of the Navajo Nation Council and serves at the pleasure of the council, according to tribal law.
