Meeting scheduled to discuss future of bridges in Shiprock

FARMINGTON — A public information meeting is scheduled for Wednesday evening at the Shiprock Chapter House regarding the future of the two bridges along U.S. Highway 64 and 491 that cross the San Juan River.

The New Mexico Department of Transportation and the Federal Highway Administration are hosting a meeting discuss plan concepts for the U.S. 64 San Juan Bridge Crossing Project and receive public comment.

The project focuses on the two bridges along U.S. Highway 64 and 491 that cross the San Juan River in Shiprock. The north bridge was built in 1936 and the south bridge was constructed in 1961.

The meeting is scheduled to start at the 6 p.m. with an open house and a presentation by project members is set to start at 6:15 p.m. about the proposed project plans.

Project members will answer questions and provide comment on the project after the presentation.

NMDOT is in the process of developing bridge alternatives due to the conditions of the bridges.
