FARMINGTON — The Shiprock Chapter is hosting a special meeting Tuesday afternoon to have board members of the Northern Navajo Nation Fair address concerns about the status of this year's fair.

Shiprock Chapter President Duane "Chili" Yazzie said the meeting at 4 p.m. Tuesday at the chapter house will allow members of the fair board to give an update on the status of the planning and preparation for this year's 106th fair scheduled for Oct. 5-8 in Shiprock.

Yazzie hopes the meeting will help clear up concerns he has heard from the community regarding if the fair will take place or not.

He believes the meeting will help address what community members have described to him as an apparent lack of preparation at the fairgrounds. The reports Yazzie has received from the fair board state everything is scheduled for preparation.

The special meeting follows the action Aug. 11 during a special meeting by members of the Northern Navajo Agency Council to remove the fair's board members, according to The Daily Times archives.

Dan Smith, fair board chairman, told the Daily Times the agency council's actions were illegal and the board would remain in place, according to The Daily Times archives.
